All Smith County Government Offices will be closed Friday, July 3rd for the 4th of July holiday. The Smith County Landfill will be closed Saturday, July 4th and all of the County Convenience sites will be closed on the 4th and will reopen on Sunday, July 5th at their regular hours of operation.
The deadline to vote in Smith County in any of the August 6th elections is Thursday, July 7th at the Smith County Election Commision Office at the Turner Building in Carthage. Early voting in the election will be held Friday, July 17th thru Saturday, August 1st. On election day, Thursday, August 6th, Polls will be open from 7am - 7pm. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reminding residents across Middle Tennessee that black bears are on the move this summer. Black bears have already been sighted in Hickman, Dickson, Wilson and Sumner counties and are expected to migrate into other counties. Residents are encouraged not to approach or feed the bears and report sightings to their local TWRA offices
The Second Harvest Food Mobile Truck will be at the Smith County Ag Center for a food distribution on Wednesday, July 8th. Line-up for non-perishable items begins at 8am and the distribution of perishable items begins at 10am. The truck will remain on site until all the food is distributed. For details call 615-735-2093.
The Smith County Election Commission would like to remind Registered Voters who are unable to go to their polling place on Election Day may vote during early voting or by voting absentee if they meet certain qualifications. To vote absentee you must submit a request to the Election Commission Office to include your social security number, home address and date of birth by July 27th
