The U.S Census Bureau has announced plans to hire temporary workers in Smith County to help with the 2020 Census.  Jobs offer flexible hours and the pay rate begins at $15 per hour plus 58 cents per mile.  All positions include paid training.  For complete details call 1-800-877-8339.


The 5th Annual Easton Goad Foundation 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, October 19th at Red Boiling Springs Park in Red Boiling Springs.  Registration begins at 6:30am rain or shine and the race will begin at 8am.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place medels will be given to males and females in each category and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place plaques will be given to the overall male and female finishers.  Entry fee is $20.

A free Fall Festival will be held Sunday, October 13th from 1-4pm hosted by the Josh Kirby Team at  Blackwell Realty and Auction at 941 Upper Ferry Road in Carthage.  There will be food, a bounce house, pumpkin painting, vendors and the first 250 kids get a free pumpkin.
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for Smith County on Tuesday, September 24th from 9-11am at the Smith County Ag Center.  Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities.  This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the state of Tennessee
The 5th Annual 5K and Fun Run for Down Syndrome Awareness will be held Saturday, October 5th beginning at 8am at DeKalb West School in Liberty.  The cost is $25 per person for the 5K Run and $15 to register for the Fun Run.  For more information please e-mail the race director at



A UT Home, Farm & Garden Lunch & Learn Seminar will be held Wednesday, October 2nd at the Smith County Chamber beginning at noon.  The topic of the seminar is "Fall Weed Control" with guest speaker Chris Hicks of Smith County UT Extension.  The cost is $5 per person and includes lunch.  For more details call 615-735-2900.
